The Park as Lover
Group show featuring Hedda Roman
Jun 9th – Sep 15th, 2024
Lantz'scher Park, Düsseldorf
Installation view of Hedda Roman, Pandemonium, 2024
The Park as Lover is a three-month programme of exhibitions, performances and events conceived by Katharina Klang, where encounters with Lantz'scher Park in Lohausen from the perspective of its non-human inhabitants as equal counterparts—as lovers—unfold.
A historical survey of European gardens reveals how the creation of parks is closely linked to hegemonic demands: their design, in particular, reflects the desire for representation and the display of trade relations, which found expression in various design principles.
Contrary to the Western anthropocentric logic of importing and cultivating, which requires demarcations such as nature/culture, animal/human, man/woman, The Park as Lover aims to focus on symbiotic relationships and the creative abilities of all beings.
What can we learn from the self-organising powers of microbes?
At the centre of this questioning is the concept of a comprehensive kinship between all species and the reversal of learned subject-object attributions.
