Curated by Filipa Ramos

According to the guest curator, Filipa Ramos, this Anniversary exhibition “(…) celebrates Kunsthalle Lissabon’s existence by revisiting each year of its activity. The title is borrowed from an artwork by Portuguese artist Luis Lázaro Matos — a series of flags entitled Pangolin Republic, made in 2020 and attending to the pangolin, one of the animals more implicated in the pandemic — and proposes to joyfully turn the space of the Kunsthalle Lissabon into a Pangolin Republic: a queer, interspecies, interconnected space that celebrates its 15 years of love, care and friendship.

Methodologically, Fifteen Years of Love at the Pangolin Republic revisits the exhibition history of the Kunsthalle Lissabon, exhibiting one selected artist per year of activity, from 2009 until 2023. Thematically, the show celebrates the fifteen years of existence of the KL by presenting a survey of some of the artists that have exhibited there while bringing together a group of artworks that address expressions of love and regeneration, feelings that are much needed in our current times.”
