As part of Gallery Weekend Berlin, the Boros Collection will open its new collection presentation Collection Boros #4 showing more than 20 contemporary artist positions. The thematic focus is the "reification of our bodies": in order to immunize ourselves against viruses and optimize our own performances, we permanently upgrade our bodies via artificial extensions. Memories are externalized - stored in clouds - and social interactions digitized. As devices become more humanoid, our bodies gradually morph into technoid devices.

The exhibition includes works by Jean-Marie Julian Charrière, Thomas Eggerer, Cyprien Gaillard, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Yngve Holen, Klára Hosnedlová, Anne Imhof, Alicja Kwade, Victor Man, Kris Martin, Nick Mauss, Jonathan Monk, Adrian Morris, Paulo Nazareth, Berenice Olmedo, Amalia Pica, Bunny Rogers, Michael Sailstorfer, Wilhelm Sasnal, Pieter Schoolwerth, Anna Uddenberg, Julius von Bismarck, Eric Wesley, He Xiangyu. An accompanying exhibition catalogue has been published.

The Boros Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes and supports contemporary art. With a high-rise bunker in Berlin Mitte it operates an exhibition space for the presentation of the private collection of Karen and Christian Boros.

Versuch unter Kreisen, 2012-15
Mixed Media

Versuch unter Kreisen (Experiment Among Circles) is a spatial installation made up of several lamps on long cords, that swing in circular motions. The mathematically calculated, cyclical motion of the four illuminated bodies is inspired by wave patterns that occur in nature in such minute or enormous dimensions that they are generally not visible to the naked eye. Propelled by motors, the lamps’ trajectory, at first glance seems chaotic and arbitrary, slowly reveals itself as carefully pre-meditated and technically precise. The work both exploits technology and allegorises the role it plays—to reach beyond our perceptual and mental capabilities and strive for greater perfection. Versuch unter Kreisen is the outcome of Julius von Bismarck’s artistic residency by CERN – European Organization for Nuclear Research, awarded as the first recipient of a Prix Ars Electronica Collide@CERN in 2012.

Dog sledge, 14 coconuts in lead sarcophagi

The coconuts, collected by Julian Charrière, during his stay on the Marshall Islands, which are coated in lead afterwards, are witnesses to the nuclear tests carried out by the Americans in the 1950s as the beginning of a new era, also symbolizing the traumatic embrace of this region by the atom project. Mounted on a sledge from Greenland, almost sinking from its ballast into the melting ice and rising sea level, the work Empire tells of the destructive power of humans, whose effects extend from the Bikini Atoll to glacial landscapes. The means of transport created by humans themselves threatens to perish, and with its demise comes the extinction/erase of cultures.
