The Sleeping Hippopotamus and the Missing Eskimo

The publication was produced to accompany two exhibitions of the artist duo João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiv, which took place in Cologne oin autumn 2015 and in Aarau in spring 2016.
The exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland were designed independently of one another in terms of content, but they display certain overlaps and paralells. The exhibition in the Aargauer Kunsthaus consists of around forty filmic works and sculptures as well s more than thirty photographic pieces. With over one hundred individual items, it is the mose extensive exhibition of João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva's work to date. The Sleeping Eskimo offers an extensive insight into the Portuguese artists' multilayered oeuvre.
