Fabrice Samyn
The Hatching of the Cloud or The Archeology of the Sky

51 x 93 x 47 cm

Clouds were widely sculpted in the late Renaissance and Baroque periods, appearing often in churches, transforming the earthly entity to a heavenly symbol. Here, returned to the ground and broken in an almost iconoclastic gesture, the object now emphasises its process of design and places in the foreground the man-made impact over landscape and the climate. The actual clouds, whether in their absence or stormy presence, are talking now more than ever, facing us with our responsibility in the Anthropocene.
