Gold leaf on wood
126 x 4 x 4 cm

An antique walking stick, formerly used by a pilgrim, serves as an invitation to meditate on the shortness of existence. The wood shows numerous traces of woodworm, and these cavities were gilded by Samyn, using recycled gold from discarded computers. The chosen medium points towards the destructive human greed that has led mankind to disrespect the earth, while the traces of woodworms, quite literally highlighted by Samyn, represent a void created by nature.
